Honestly, I don't know, but I have found that with a large number of people, eliminating all dairy from their diet completely clears their skin. It feels like a miracle, though it is difficult at first to do, it is worth it. In the place of dairy people take calcium and vitamin D supplement, a little bit of soy, and more vegetables. But as far as zinc, I know it helps with body odor problems. Hope you find out the info you need.Do zinc supplements help cure acne?
There is no cure for acne, sadly.

However if you get a handle on it with products and a routine taking zinc, a and e and sasafras root - it's supposed to really help maintain great skin -
You can find the benefit of zinc for skin at the source below.
To a certain extent, Zinc has an effect on the the body, not only on the skin. Zinc is a very important in one's immune system, it helps to strengthen it. It is also needed in cell division.

New skin cells are constantly being replaced as the epidermal layer of the the skin dies off. This will enable your skin to be in its smooth condition.

Zinc also assists in synthesis of collagen which is the main protein of connective tissue found in the skin, which is great for healing wounds. However it is to be noted that not only zinc is important in collagen synthesis, Vitamin C, a sufficient intake of protein and other minerals are also required.

As for apples, the notable element they contain is potassium. Potassium also helps in skin elasticity. Insufficient potassium will cause the skin to be dry and less elastic. Banana is also a very good source of potassium.

Taking zinc supplements are not really necessary as the body require only a small amount of zinc of about 9.0mg for a 14 year old and 7.0 mg for an adult women per day (check up on the required daily intakes). These can be achieved easily from just taking meat. Furthermore, taking too much zinc will bring upon alot of unwanted effects. It may damage the immune system instead of strengthening it. This is very dangerous for the body as it is weakened by itself to diseases and illness.

Taking apples helps, not only apples but other fruits like orange which contains vitamin C and every other fruit. However, the effect of these will not be seen very quickly. It will take a long time for the body to build up what is required. This is why it is advised for children from young to have a healthy diet with a rich amount of fruits and vegetables. This will fill the body with what they need in the future.

Further more, the causes for acne may vary from person to person. But mostly due to the production of oil by sebaceous glands in the skin and forming plug that is clogged in pores. This causes acne bacteria to thrive on the skin and in the clogged pores. There by infecting the skin, causing acne.

Pore size and quality and composition of the oil also matters. Some people may have oily skin but not have acne because the oil is secreted out of the pores and not clogged in it. Environmental conditions which brings about bacteria are also one of the causes. Which is why it is advised to wash your face with soap at least 3 times daily to keep away bacteria and to remove any excess oil. As for the production of oil by sebaceous glands, it is due to the secretion of hormones by reproductive organs during puberty as the reproductive organs mature. Gene and inheritance is also one of the factors for large oil production.

Overall, zinc and apples do help, but it is very insignificant if you start taking them when the problem has arise, This does not mean that you should stop taking fruits or what. But SLIGHTLY increasing the intake per day would be just fine. Also, taking zinc supplements is not recommended.

There are many more cures to acne other than these. However, it is to be bore in mind that every treatment of an organ like skin takes time, and things cannot be rushed, it may take months or years. Even for receiving a treatment from a doctor or dermatologist, it may also take several weeks or months, and there is no guarantee. However, the best choice for curing skin problems is to consult a doctor. :)
